At a little after midnight on the 8th of March 2014 passengers of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 were called to prepare for boarding. By 12.38am all 227 passengers and 12 crew members were on board and ready to make their journey from Kuala Lumpur Airport to Beijing. Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was given clearance from air traffic control to prepare for takeoff. The Boeing 777 shot down the runway, reaching a speed of 180 mph before taking off at 12.42am. The 227 passengers came from 14 different countries and included five children. Malaysia Air Traffic Control was in charge of tracking the plane until it passed into Vietnamese Airspace. MH370 climbed steadily to 35,000 feet and moved northwards over the South China Sea towards Vietnam. It could be seen as a small blip on the screen as Lumpur radar radioed the captain at 01.19, “Malaysian 70, contact Ho Chi Minh, 120 decimal 9”. To which Captain Shah replied, “Goodnight Malaysian 370”. The blip continued to travel across the radar screen until it reached the outer edge and disappeared from view…
