The frightening lethal autonomous weapons, which are being developed in the United States, China, and Israel, will automatically select humans deemed a “threat” to the system and eliminate them. Some critics have voiced fears that the deployment of AI weapons would entrust machines to make decisions about whether to kill human targets, with no human oversight. This is an absolutely fundamental security issue, a legal issue, and an ethical issue.
