This time of year is full of high strangeness hiding in plain sight all around the world. From the acceptance of a character who can break in to any house in the world, to flying animals, from cloth hunting cats to horse skulls singing for their supper, Christmas is strange.

Joining me to discuss these customs and many others is Tobias Wayland, who along with his wife Emily, has created a thoughtful and beautifully illustrated book “The Singular Fortean’s Yuletide Guide to High Strangeness”.

From real encounters with Father Christmas, to the traditions of Iceland, Wales, Germany and more, we look at some of the unusual encounters that lurk in the coat tails of our Christmas and Yuletide traditions.
