During the 1700’s thousands of French settlers were expelled from the Northeastern region of North America and were forced to return to France or resettle in various other areas. One of the most popular destinations was the then Spanish colony of Louisiana. Over the following century, these recently arrived French and the area’s Native American cultures blended into what we now call Cajuns. Although, bloodlines and customs were not the only things that ended up mixing together. Legends of a shapeshifting terror also took form from the shared beliefs of both groups. An unholy beast that stalks the swamps and bayous with an uncontrollable thirst for blood. The creature has many supposed beginnings,  a witch’s curse, The soul of an unbaptized child given to the swamps to be raised by alligators, the origins of the beast are as murky as the waters of the bayous themselves.
