Spread the love

For this week’s addition to the Campfire Classics Collection, we have a story from a lesser known, but equally as monumental a writer of the Victorian era, William Harrison Ainsworth. Ainsworth was a prolific English writer who lived from 1805 to 1882. Ainsworth’s literary career was marked by a fascination with the macabre, the gothic, and the supernatural, making him an unsung hero of Victorian horror literature. The story of The Spectre Bride is a haunting tale that intertwines love and the supernatural in a way that only Ainsworth could masterfully accomplish. It’s a tale of dark family secrets, cursed love, and a bride with an otherworldly twist.

Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling is created for adult audiences only. The content and discussion in this show will necessarily engage with various accounts that include violence, anxiety, fear, and occasional body horror. Much of it will be emotionally and intellectually challenging to engage with. We will flag especially graphic or intense content so as to never put you in an uninformed or unprepared position. We will do our best to make this a space where we can engage bravely, empathetically, and thoughtfully with difficult content every week.

This week’s episode includes descriptions/sound related the following sensitive content:

High Anxiety Situations

Murder

Slavery

Torment
