Moloch was an Ammonite Sun God and personified the detrimental effects of the sun’s rays on earth. Bronze statues were erected in his honor throughout ancient Canaan and he was worshipped with the practice of human sacrifice. He was demonized in Hebrew lore, referred to “the abomination of the Ammonites” (1 Kings 11:7).
