The term cult has become loaded with negative connotations, but when did it come into existence? And was it always so filled with preconceived notions and ideas of brainwashing and mind control? Interesting research this week as I tried to dig into the beginnings and found that some interesting information, including but not limited to that “mind control” and “brainwashing” are not even accepted concepts or considered legitimate phenomena by most scientists. So, there must be reasons why people join cults outside of having their minds taken over.
