AUDITION / FRANKENHOOKER: The Perfect Woman

Spread the love

Want a date? But with whom? What are the ideals and standards of perfection that men hold women to in modern society? The Cadaver Dogs are pulling back the curtains on the unrealistic expectations we hold in relationships, and the destructive – sometimes explosive – consequences.

There have been many interpretations of Takashi Miike’s AUDITION (1999) over the years, and oh boy do we have thoughts! On the total opposite of the spectrum lies FRANKENHOOKER (1990), the title and plot of which writer-director Frank Henenlotter improvised during a pitch meeting. But the Dogs will also seek to answer: Are these movies truly sexist, or are they secretly feminist? Or neither?

Up Next: DAGON (2001) / NIGHTMARE CITY (1980)
